Our Mission

Since it was founded in 1989 by Jane Reisman, Ph.D., Organizational Research Services (ORS) has become a national leader in Outcome-based evaluation and Outcome-based planning, serving nonprofit, philanthropic and public organizations.
We work with our clients to create Outcome-based evaluations and plans as well as contracting, grantmaking and performance measurement systems. As part of these efforts, ORS has been building capacity, providing training and technical assistance, and carrying out Outcome-based evaluations. We provide consulting to organizations throughout Washington state as well as nationally and internationally.

ORS creates “Orientation to Theory of Change” Brochure
ORS developed an introduction to theory of change to help familiarize our clients with the basics of theory of change and how it fits into outcome-based planning and evaluation. This brochure includes an easy to follow overview of theory of change techniques, types of change, and the “Layer Cake” model. Download the brochure [PDF].

ORS creates “A Guide to Measuring Advocacy and Policy”
Commissioned by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, ORS developed this guide to help determine meaningful ways to measure and evaluate the impact of its advocacy and public policy grantmaking. The framework is intended to provide a common way to identify and talk about outcomes, providing philanthropic and nonprofit audiences an opportunity to react to, refine and adopt the outcome categories presented. Read more or download the guide [PDF].

An excerpt from “A Guide to Measuring Advocacy and Policy” was also published in Harvard’s Spring 2007 edition of the Evaluation Exchange [PDF].

ORS provides training to the Hawai’i Community Foundation (HCF)
To help strengthen the understanding, development and implementation of process and program evaluations, ORS recently designed and led several group trainings to HCF grantees and grantseekers.
